Volunteer Work: Graphic Design Projects

I have been fortunate enough to help with two very distinct projects, lending my graphic design skills and marketing skills.  These projects both involved gathering large groups of diverse people to come together to both raise money and awareness to causes they feel very strongly about.  I had the privilege to work with wonderful community members from throughout North Central Washington who are passionate about what they do and what they believe in.  Both events were very successful and have sparked a notion of "1st Annual" events for both projects.

Fresh Air Festival

Wenatchee, WA

October 20, 2012

The Fresh Air Festival was the brain-child of a few great community members in the Wenatchee Valley, as a response to the devastating fires that charred much of the landscape throughout North Central Washington in the summer of 2012.  The wake of these fires was vast and left the Wenatchee Valley and its neighbors smoked in for over a month.  When the smoke finally did lift, people thought of no better way to go outside again than to hold an event to thank the thousands of emergency first responders that kept everyone safe and protected every home during that dangerous time.

The event featured live music from Washington bands, local food vendors, a 5K family fun run, a photo and story montage where people were encouraged to tell their stories about their fire experiences, and many educational booths where first responder representatives came to provide education on wildfire prevention and emergency preparedness for future natural disasters.

The event was wildly successful.  We talked to thousands of people and raised thousands of dollars, which was donated to the American Red Cross.  This event was prepped and marketed with two weeks advance notice, and its success has sparked an annual event that has the backing of many local businesses and promises to be much bigger next year.

St. Luke's Episcopal Church Brochure

Wenatchee, WA

November, 2012

St. Luke's Episcopal Church is one of the oldest churches in the Wenatchee Valley.  It is a small church with humble means and a very loyal, yet aging congregation.  This church has so much to offer in the way of history, art, and architecture, as all of these things are rather unique in the Wenatchee Valley where stone construction is seldom seen and stained its stain glass work is matched by none.

Because of all they have to offer, the St. Luke's congregation began a campaign to market to new potential younger members into their congregation.  They wanted to work with someone who could maintain the integrity of their beautiful building and stay true to their message, but also someone who could design a brochure that might appeal to people of younger generations.

St. Luke's is an extremely diverse and vibrant church with members from all backgrounds and histories.  They are already a wonderful example of a modern-day church, as they provide sanctuary and love to anyone and everyone who walks through the door.  This brochure was first provided at a month long art gallery installation that was held in Mid-November-December in the nave of the church, and is now the main brochure at the church at the entrance for anyone to take and learn about this gem in the Wenatchee Valley.  Since the beginning of their campaign, St. Luke's has seen the arrival of new young families, teens and young adults who were inspired to come visit and learn about this church and its history.  If not even for the religion or creed, but for the community and the amazing building that supports it.

The Little Red Wagon Brigade

St. Luke's Episcopal Church

Wenatchee, WA

June, 2012

The Little Red Wagon Brigade is a campaign that was Started at St. Luke's Episcopal Church by members who are looking to market their church to younger generations.  This church has history, art and architecture that is matched by none in the Wenatchee Valley, and in order for this church to move into the future successfully, they want to share their community with people who will carry its success for many years to come.

The Little Red Wagon Brigade members asked me to come up with a logo that would represent their mission of corralling people in a safe environment to share their stories, honoring our amazing natural landscape and bringing new life to this church that longs for alternate approaches to the way churches are traditionally run.
